On Thursday, July 28th, a group of us visited a Syrian Refugee Camp outside the city of Veria. There are about 400 people living there for over two months while waiting to be processed and hopefully sent on to an EU country for a new lease in life. We were able to bring some food and hygiene products, a small relief in an uncertain future. For me especially, it was a very satisfying experience. It was over 90 years ago that my grandparents, parents and other relatives, while on death marches in Turkey, ended up in Aleppo, Syria where the Syrians kept them alive for over six months. The ones that survived, came later and settled in Greece. A small example where an act of kindness was repaid in a small way all those years later. We found a Christian couple among them where the husband is Armenian! They are expecting a baby and I hope to visit again soon!

The Syrian friends gave home to the thousands of Armenians, sent to exile and helped them to survive, after the cruel persecutions.
